About the Episode

LifeBlood NURTURE: We talked about an EdTech platform that centralizes learning for the sake of helping kids flourish, enjoy learning and improving personalized learning and educational continuity.

We discussed Chris’ experience as a teacher responsible for over 150 students and the challenges and frustrations of everything outside of simply teaching the kids that was required, and how there wasn’t one place to make it all happen, which led to the founding of his company.

We talked about the long list of things teachers are responsible for, systematizing them in the name of being able to spend more time focusing on the students and helping to unlock the potential of each child.

We discussed the changes that have taken place in recent memory and how there’s an opportunity to embrace technology in order to do a better job of developing personalized learning and improving continuity from one grade and teacher to the next for a child.

We talked about the risk we’re facing of an entire generation of kids who could get turned off from learning, which would rob them of becoming life-long learners, something we all aspire to being with Chris Hull, CoFounder and Chief Product Officer at Otus, the first EdTech platform to centralize learning management, assessments and data for administrators, teachers, students and families.  Listen to learn how and why to start each day off thinking about trying to be your best, even if you might fail!

First Principles Thinking

A first principle is a basic assumption that cannot be deduced any further. Over two thousand years ago, Aristotle defined a first principle as “the first basis from which a thing is known.” First principles thinking is a fancy way of saying “think like a scientist.”...

The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule

I want to talk about two significant maxims, the Golden Rule and one attributed to Fyodor Dostoyevky.   “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” “Society should not be judged on how it treats its outstanding citizens but by how it treats its...

Face Punching

Face Punching

Mike Tyson famously said “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”  From there, you’ll have to see how your plan survives it’s collision with reality.  And so it goes for you and I as well.  Hopefully, you’re not physically getting...

Fanny Packs

Fanny Packs

Does your desire to conveniently carry lots of stuff outweigh the stigma of wearing a fanny pack?  Is that a tradeoff you’ve made, or that you’re willing to make?   Speaking of tradeoffs, are you conscious of the decisions you’ve already made or are currently...

Gandhi’s Glasses

Gandhi’s Glasses

Recently, I read about how a pair of Mahatma Gandhi’s glasses were sold at auction for $340,000.  While I don’t have an opinion as to whether or not that’s the correct price for his actual glasses, I wondered what the value of his perspective would...

Meet Your Heroes

Meet Your Heroes

Conventional wisdom tells us we should never meet our heroes, because the only thing that’ll come from it is disappointment.   But I disagree.  I think we should meet our heroes because we’ll be disappointed, and that’s a good thing.   We all...

Live How You Want

Live How You Want

Are you living how you want?  Is your life the life that you want?  That’s a giant and potentially terrifying question and maybe the most important question you can ask yourself.   In order to live how you want, you need to ask yourself how you...

Chaos

Chaos

Complete disorder and confusion.  Behavior so unpredictable as to appear random.  The formless matter supposed to have existed before the creation of the universe.  2020. These are all definitions of chaos.  If we weren’t feeling swamped and a bit...

Where You At?

Where You At?

One my favorite words, arete, has no true English equivalent. It’s a Greek word whose meaning is close to “virtue” and whose definition is “what I can be, I must be.”  It speaks to a desire to realize our potential, to become the best possible version of...
